Each unit is powered by rechargeable battery packs. The batteries for the
disc drive and the printer are replaceable; the battery for the computer is
not user serviceable.
Each should be operated with HP step-down AC adapters
whenever possible to maintain a maximum charge. The computer can operate for
about 8 hours without recharging, the disc drive for about 5 hours, and the
printer for about 4 hours.

Equipment lifespan:
The BGU having reasonable ruggedized construction
is capable of repeated performance over a span of approximately two to
four years depending upon hours to use, care taken during use,
transportation, and storage.
Mission lifespan:
Internal batteries will provide approximately 8
hours of mission life before recharging is necessary.
Data protection:
Stored data is provided protection by means of a
non-volatile memory.
Screen display:
A visual LCD display is provided.
Mission essential accomplishment: Normal mission essentiality
presents no problem except for the disc drive.
Operating temperature range:
The BECS will operate satisfactorily in
the nominal temperature range from -30 to +52 degrees centigrade.
Main Menu:
The main menu contains over eleven different programs.
Modes of operation:
Transmit; transmit FH; Local Transmit; remote
transmit; receive; receive FH; local receive; remote receive; store;
test internally (BIT); search; scrolling and zeroing
