COMSEC switch to CT and selecting the same COMSEC key.
A comsec key is a
variable used to enable secure communications.
Two types of COMSEC keys are
used: (1) a traffic encryption key (TEK) may be loaded into channels 1, 2, 3, 4,
or 5 and (2) a key encryption key (KEK) is loaded into channel 6. Have one or
more TEK loaded into your rt before a mission if you need to handle secure
traffic.
You can then exchange secure voice and data with other RT-1523(C)/U
having the same TEK or KEK.
The rt CHAN switch selects a TEK or KEK. You can
keep the same channel but change the TEK scrolling. You can communicate with
other VHF FM radios which are equipped with a KY-57 COMSEC device.

minimum of 1/2 second each key.
If a good COMSEC key is already in the
radio, the alarm clears to no alarm.
If the radio does not have a good
COMSEC key, the alarm clears to a steady tone.
A COMSEC key can only be loaded when a steady tone is present at the
handset.
The steady tone clears to no alarm if fill procedure is
successfully completed.
If the COMSEC alarm does not clear, set FCTN to STBY; then to TST. If
TST results in a FAIL5 display, there is a COMSEC failure. If GOOD
is displayed, resume normal operation.
