1-1. SCOPE
Type of Manual: Operator's And Organizational Maintenance Model Number and Equipment Name: MD-
701(*)/UY Modem, Digital Data (Includes MD-701/UY, MD-701A/UY and MD-701/IUY (configurations))
Purpose of Equipment: Transmits and receives serial-by-bit binary data at rates of 600, 1200, and 2400 bits per
second (bps) over a standard 3kHz voice frequency path which interconnects two data processing terminals.
Special Limitations on Equipment: Ambient temperature of 0to +50 . Relative humidity of 95%.

Special Inclusions in Manual: Hatch mark in parenthesis immediately after nomenclature MD-701 indicates all
models of equipment treated as a single model.
1-2. MAINTENANCE FORMS, RECORDS, AND REPORTS
a. Reports of Maintenance and Unsatisfactory Equipment. Department of the Army forms and procedures used for
equipment maintenance will be those prescribed by DA PAM 733-750 as contained in Maintenance Management Update.
Navy personnel will report maintenance performed utilizing the Maintenance Data Collection Subsystem (MDCS) IAW
OPNAVINST 4790.2, Vol 3 and unsatisfactory material/conditions (UR submissions) IAW OPNAVINST 4790.2 Vol 2,
chapter 17.
b. Report of Packaging and Handling Deficiencies. Fill out and forward SF 364 (Report of Discrepancy (ROD)) as
prescribed in AR 735-11-2/DLAR 4140.55/NAVMATINST 4355.73A.
c. Discrepancy in Shipment Report (DISREP)(SF 361). Fill out and forward Discrepancy in Shipment Report
(DISREP) (SF 361) as prescribed in AR 55-38/NAVSUPINST 4610.33C.
